He might have been the most professional Apprentice candidate, but playing it safe didn't do Howard any favours in the boardroom.
We caught up with him to get his take on loopy Lorraine, and find out who he wants to win.
What went wrong?
Oh, I don't know. Lorraine should have gone, definitely. I really think Sir Alan made the wrong decision on this one. I think he took a massive risk in putting Lorraine through to the next round.
Why do you think Sir Alan fired you?
He made a comment that I wasn't much of a risk taker, which is probably fair. I do like to play things safe. But at moments where I'd had opportunities to take risks, and I haven't taken them, it's been the right decision - like not choosing to try to sell a rocking horse.
Throughout the process you've been one of the quieter candidates - do you regret that?
I think there's a difference between being quiet and being professional. I think that some of the behaviour of the other candidates is totally appalling. To shout and scream in a professional environment is ridiculous. In the beginning Sir Alan said quite clearly to all of us: "This is about how you perform under pressure," and I think that I've been nothing but professional.
What do you think of Lorraine? She's a bit of an enigma.
I have a lot of respect for Lorraine and I'm very fond of her, but I do think she's very unpredictable and she doesn't have very good communication skills. She doesn't know how to put her point accross in a way that doesn't wind people up.
She vehemently blamed you for the failure of the task - do you resent her behaviour in the boardroom?
I wouldn't have expected anything less. I think she played a better boardroom than I did which is why I ended up being fired.
What's been your favourite moment throughout the series?
I loved winning in the first week, that was a great feeling. And I really enjoyed the baby task - I had absolutely no sales experience but it turned out I was pretty good.
Who do you want to win?
Kate. For me she's always been the person to beat. I think she's got the complete skill set to go all the way.
