Arlene PhillipsArlene PhillipsIt looks like Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips will be tip tapping her way stage left - off the show.

The choreographer has been reportedly axed.

Producers want the show to attract a younger audience like it's rival X Factor so the rumour is that former winner Alesha Dixon will replace Arlene.

A source told the Sun: "Nothing has been signed, but bosses really want Alesha as she has everything they're looking for.

Alesha DixonAlesha Dixon"She also knows a thing or two about dancing. Strictly can feel a bit old fashioned."

Arlene has been a judge for five years, and she's known for her no messing comments, but she fell out of favour with the public when she criticised newsman John Sergeant who went on to quit the show.

It's not been an easy time for Strictly of late  - first there was talk of host Bruce Forsyth quitting the show due to the salary cut backs that the BBC are making across the board, and now there's another blow because ITV bosses are planning on opening the voting lines for the X Factor for an extra 24 hours.

This will mean that not only will they rake in a whole load of extra cash from the phone lines, but the additional X Factor results show will go head-to-head with Strictly's results show.

Ooh it's getting nasty.
