Monday just got a little bit bluer with this piece of bitter ‘Enders news.
Larry Lamb’s been chopped as bosses scramble to save cash.
We reported last month that Larry, who plays bad granddad Archie Mitchell, will walk back into Walford this summer. But now his return will just be a flash in the pan due to BBC cutbacks.
The news comes hot on the heels of Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann) and Ricky Groves (Garry Hobbs) being axed from the soap, and June Brown’s claims that her character, Dot Cotton, is now too pricey for the Beeb.
Apparently, all members of the cast are worried they could be next.
Barbara Windsor (Peggy Windsor) told the Mirror: “It’s really worrying what’s going on with the cutbacks.
As a result of the changes, I think we’re missing out on some of the things that made EastEnders so special.
But we have to consider ourselves lucky to be in work at the moment.”
Archie left Walford in a hurry when his lies about the death of Ronnie’s (Samantha Janus) daughter were revealed.
A soap spokesman claimed that there was nowhere further for Archie to go, even though his character was a hit with viewers.
