Daniella Westbrook to return as Sam MitchellDaniella WestbrookThere’s a triple header of Mitchell news today.

Brace yourself for a massive EastEnders hit.

First up, welcome back Sam Mitchell mark one. As we predicted last month, Danniella Westbrook will be walking back into Walford almost 20 years after her first steps on the Square.

She played Phil and Grant’s little sister for ten years but her party lifestyle and cocaine abuse allegedly affected her performance and she was axed. Sam came back in 2002 but played by another actress, Kim Medcalfe.

Peggy's youngest was last seen scarpering to Brazil in 2005 to escape trial for perverting the course of justice over the murder of Dirty Den Watts. But she’s going to swap sunny Rio for rainy Walford this summer.

Danniella said: “I'm really happy to be coming back, it feels just like coming home. I can't wait to get the scripts to see what Sam Mitchell has been up to since she was last in the Square."

Maybe she’ll be able to help Phil with his latest troubles...

The landlord (played by Steve McFadden) is set to hit the bottle again when he can’t face up to Peggy’s demands of him.

Phil joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 1997 and has made it through numerous Mitchell family crises sober. But as Peggy (Barbara Windsor) comes to terms with what Archie (Larry Lamb) has done she makes a demand of Phil that he just can’t cope with.

"Kill him" were her exact words.

So while Peggy goes on holiday with Aunt Sal (Anna Karen), Phil consoles himself with his old enemy, booze.

An EastEnders source told The Sun: “He thought he’d nailed it. But with addiction you’re always in danger you’ll slip off the waggon.

When he’s left alone the temptation becomes too much and soon he’s drinking more than ever before.”

Phil’s guardian angel is once again Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) who finds him passed out in a car at The Arches.

Lauren Crace as Danielle MitchellLauren Crace as Danielle MitchellBring Dani Back?
And finally, she wasn’t very popular in life but now she’s gone there’s a massive online petition to bring back Danielle (Lauren Crace).

Over 70 Facebook groups have been started since Thursday’s shock death story angered fans.

Diederick Santer, EastEnders executive producer, responding to fans online, said: “It’s fantastic to have made such an impact.

I didn’t expect this level of reaction. The story seems to have really touched people, got under their skin and – in some cases – utterly enraged them.”

Which is more of a reaction than poor drippy Danielle ever got when she was alive.
