Glynis Barber Glynis Barber is cast as Mitchell mum GlendaLook out Walford, there’s a new Mitchell on the block.

And she doesn’t take any messin’ about, just like her faaaaamily.

Glynis Barber has been cast as Glenda Mitchell, mum to Ronnie (Samantha Womack) and Roxy (Rita Simmons). She takes over from Jill Gascoine who withdrew from filming last week,

Glenda was married to Archie (Larry Lamb) and was a quiet subservient wife. She left the girls when they were teens, something they’ve never forgiven her for, but now walks back into their lives with a new, confident personality.

We wonder if Archie will be around to see her.

Jill Gascoine, who said of her departure: “I was so looking forward to playing Glenda but having spent the last 15 years working in America, largely acting in single drama and writing fiction, I felt on arrival I lacked the right experience to film such a big continuing drama.”

Glynis Barber, who’s stepped into the Mitchell shoes, is best known for playing Sgt. Harriet Makepeace in 1980s police drama Dempsey and Makepeace.

That’s quite a role. Here’s hoping she can fill the gaping Mitchell matriarch hole that will be left when Babs departs.
