Three kids, only two of them Ian's, a seperation, a reconciliation, two affairs and a divorce later, Cindy hired a hitman to try and get Ian out of her life forever. He failed.

After a brief fling with Ros Thorne, the invesitgator he hired to track down Cindy, and a shared kiss with Cindy's sister, Ian was ready for wife number two. Enter Melanie Healy, manager of the bric a brac shop that once formed part of the Beale empire. Bizarrely, Melanie asked Ian to marry her but soon had second thoughts. Ian emotionally blackmailed her into their Millenium Eve wedding by telling her his daughter Lucy was terminally ill. Melanie found out the truth at the reception and walked away from Ian as the new century chimed in. Classic.

After the failure of marriage number two, Ian flung himself into a new business venture and hired a nanny, Laura Dunn, to look after his kids. Laura was attracted to Ian (no, we don't know why either) and Ian, ahem, took advantage of the situation. Eventually, Laura demanded more commitment from Ian and after she saved his floundering business, he agreed and the pair tied the knot.

Ian's marriage to Laura hit the rocks when he started using the services of local prostitute Janine Butcher. Janine tried to blackmail Ian into silence over their affair but when Laura found out, she agreed to take Ian back on condition they had a baby. Ian agreed but then secretly had a vasectomy. Laura got pregnant anyway, Ian was horrible to her, she eventually fell down the steps to her flat and died. Baby Bobby was unhurt.

Ian then tried to seduce Kate Mitchell. Ian met Jane when she was selling candyfloss at Walford fair. They initially didn't like each other but attraction blossomed after Jane helped rescue Ian from a collaped fair ride. No, really. Ian tried to get together with Jane but she rejected him as her husband was terminally ill. Ian helped her get over his death, they got together, Jane had an affair with Grant Mitchell, Ian forgave her, asked him to marry him but planned to jilt her at the alter. Jane found out, jilted him, they realised they were actually made for each other and got married anyway. Phew!

Gold-digging Clare Bates tried to seduce Ian for his money. For once, the Beale machine did the right thing and left well alone. Pat first met Frank at a holiday camp in 1958 where she was named Miss Butlins. Frank led Pat a merry dance for many years until he came to Walford in 1988 in an attempt to woo her afresh. All was good (other than a spell in prison for Pat and financial ruin for the Butchers) but in 1994, Frank did a runner from the Square, leaving Pat behind.

Pat met reliable Roy Evans through her son, David. Even when Frank returned to the Square to reclaim his wife, Pat remained loyal to Roy and they married. It was her fourth marriage. Frank went on to marry Peggy Mitchell, but soon Pat and Frank realised they couldn't live without each other and decided to elope to Manchester. Peggy found out about their plans and shamed them in the Vic, Frank went to Manchester alone and Roy threw Pat out in the street.

With no man in her life, Pat turned to Patrick Trueman, who, despite being married, was unable to resist the her charms. Harry owned a bar in Spain and persuaded Peggy to move out there with him. However, a disgusted Peggy found out that Harry had sexually abused his niece, Kat, when she was 13, and was the father of Kat's daughter, Zoe. And remember, we've only printed the pics of the lovers we know about, who knows how many more are out there...?

;
