Calvin Valentine played by Ricky WhittleRicky WhittleAnother cracking storyline is about to unfold in this weeks' Hollyoaks.

Good boy turned bad Calvin Valentine is about to discover that Nige is well and truly alive and that Warren Fox has had him over a barrel.

We caught up with actor Ricky Whittle to find out how Calvin gets his revenge, if his actions have ruined his marriage and if he'll ever be a goody-two-shoes again.

What a transformation your character Calvin Valentine has undergone - have you enjoyed playing him?
It's been fun. It's a bit more separate from yourself. I mean he's been sickly sweet hasn't he really? It's in all soaps, the good guys turn bad and the bad guys turn good. It's a journey for him. And as an actor it's always good to play a bad boy.

Was it a challenge for you?
No, because I'm absolutely horrible in real life. I'm terrible - very naughty. Joke! It's more interesting to see. I get the scripts and instead of ironing his shirts and telling his sister off for not going to school, he's stealing cars and battering people.

I'm just enjoying it and it's going to snowball and snowball and get bigger and better. I've just read a script where there's a massive brawl in the middle of the village. I'm so looking forward to it but  I can't tell you who is involved.

How far in advance do you film?
We've done 2012 already, I've had kids already! About eight weeks.

Is it a relief for Calvin to confess to Carmel?
I'm not sure if it's a relief. Even though he's been bad, he is still a morally good person. He's just had a lot of bad things happen to him recently. He just wants what's best for Carmel and his family. She's thought he's had this promotion and has been spending loads of money and Calvin just can't keep up.

He should've just come forward and said he didn't really get the promotion but he doesn't, he sees all these bad guys literally getting away with murder. He gets a little taster of it, thinks 'well nobody is getting hurt, lets get involved'. So he's still a good guy at heart. He's had to lie to his family and put them in jeopardy, and to find out it's all been a lie by Warren - he's on the hunt for revenge.

When he gets his revenge, will he go back to being a good guy?
He'll always be a good guy but he's turned a corner, he's making the most of the opportunity that comes his way. If he gets his revenge on Warren he might tone it down a bit and return to the old Calvin.

What does the future hold for Calvin and Carmel?
Their destined. They're the Ross and Rachel - you've got two people who are always going to be fond of each other. They're not getting divorced, she's a Catholic and for her that would be just wrong, so it leaves the door open.

They both love each other but it depends on whether Carmel can forgive him. If had gone to her and said he had killed someone she would've been shocked, but they would've found a way to go forward. It's the fact that he's lied for so long about such a big thing - and that's what's hurting her. If he can prove to her that she can trust him again, then he's back in there.

What revenge is Calvin going to take?
Once he's seen Nige he's gonna go steaming to Warren, but Carmel stops him. He confesses everything to Carmel and once he cools down it allows him to be more calculated to seek his revenge. However, Carmel issues an ultimatum. Either they work it out or he has revenge over Warren.

He doesn't understand why Carmel won't side with him - he sees Warren as the reason why their marriage hasn't worked and he wants revenge. Where Carmel just wants Warren out of their lives, so she says 'you can have your revenge on Warren but you won't have me - It's up to you' and that's the dilemma that Calvin will be facing over the next couple of months.

Is Jamie Lomas filming at the moment?
No, he'll be back soon.

Have scripts been change because of his personal situation?
No. We've been more affected by weather but all our best wishes are with Jamie and Kim.

You look like you have such a good time together...
He's a pain in the arse. We worked on Dream Teem together. We've got history. The cast are all a similar age and we just make the days fun. People think it's all glamorous with premieres, but we're slogging out.

Sometimes we're outside in the village and it's freezing cold and Calvin's in his little rubbish tops and all the girls are in their tiny skirts, and people are there going 'I wish that was me' and it's freezing. We're putting our bodies on the line for TV.

Clearly. You're dating Carly Stenson, who plays Steph Dean. How does that work, living and working together on the same show?
We're never in scenes together. In three years, we've only had five scenes together. I wouldn't mind, but our characters live next door to each other. I've saved her brothers life and her life and she's only spoken to me twice.

Calvin's obviously not a good enough neighbour.
She's so self-obsorbed!  It does work out because we have a lot to talk about at the end of the day.

So are wedding bells on the cards?
That's outrageous! We're far too young for that. She's absolutely lovely but it's early days.

Have you still got your dodge ram? (Big American car)
It's not a dodge ram - it's The General.

Sorry.
He's got a name.

Is he the other dominant figure in your life?
He's my baby. We go back.

It's massive.
Yeah, it's my first car.

You're joking?
No - I'm gonna keep him for ever. I've pimped him up a bit. He's got a remote start, so I can start him up from outside of the car.

Why would you need that?
Well when I'm robbing banks I need a quick getaway. Joke!

So are you a big car enthusiast?
Not all cars I just love American ones. The big ones. I'm not into supercars - I just like them big.

That says a lot about you...
What do you mean? I'm compensating?

You said it. Are you compensating?
I dunno.

We're thinking ego.
Ah - I've got a massive ego. It's bigger than The General. No, I haven't got an ego or my mum would kick my ass.

You're a mummies boy then?
Massively a mamma's boy. I've got a great circle of friends. When I go round my mums I've still got to empty the bins and go to the shops and get milk. It's the same with Carley - I know my place.

What about the future? Does Hollywood beckon?
I would love to go to Hollywood. Hollyoaks is amazing, it's the best job I've ever had. The people here are amazing. I'm very blessed. I'd happily stay here for the next ten or twenty years. It's like being on holiday. If an opportunity came along, that's the only reason I would leave the show - if someone offered me something there. Obviously if they take Hollyoaks to America I'm there!
