Amy WinehouseAmy WinehouseDoctor Who producer Russell T. Davies is looking for a candidate to replace current Time Lord David Tennant.

Actors including James Nesbitt, Robert Carlyle and Daniel Radcliffe have all been touted as Tennant's successor, and now Amy Winehouse has been thrown into the mix.

According to reports, Russell thinks Wino "would make a great doctor."

We're not sure Amy's in any state to begin an acting career, but the real question is: is the country ready for Doctor Who to have a female lead?

The Sun today speculated that other ladies in the frame to take over the Tardis controls include Dame Judi Dench and Lesley Sharp.

It's one to ponder, but by the producer's own admission this is an idea unlikely to come to fruition:

"While I think kids will not have a problem with a female Doctor; I think fathers will." said Russell: "They will imagine they'll have to describe sex changes to their kids. You're talking about genitalia, and a lot of parents would get embarrassed."

Russell will step down as executive producer once the 2009 Doctor Who specials have been filmed, while lead actor David Tennant is expected to hang up his sonic screwdriver at the same time.
