Directed by award-winning filmmaker Mike Leigh in 1983, Meantime centres on the Pollack family's matriarch Mavis.
She is constantly frustrated that her husband Frank and two sons Mark and Colin, who live in a cramped East London flat, seem unable to hold down a full time job. When Barbara, Mavis's more affluent sister offers Colin a 'job' doing some decorating, Mark's attitude to his younger and less intelligent brother becomes hostile.
