After 25 weight-fluctuating years, the Dame of Daytime US TV has announced she is finally hanging up her sofa, microphone and mass giveaways for good.
A rep for Harpo Productions told E! that she will make a formal announcement on today's Oprah Winfrey show - currently airing in the UK on Diva - but the decision is set.
The highest rated talk show of all time will finally close its doors on Sep 9 2011, and it's expected that Oprah will refocus her efforts (and considerable finances) on her cable network, OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network).
The show has had many memorable moments in its quarter-century run, including Tom Cruise bouncing up and down like a toddler on an E-number trip whilst expressing his love for Katie Holmes; Oprah's phenomenal mass car giveaway (to every single member of her audience); a New York Times Bestseller dominating book club, and a number of searing interviews with major celebrities.
While we're more than partial to a bit of Ellen here at TV Towers, it's fair to say Oprah will be missed.
