Take a deep breath.
Britain’s Got the Pop Factor and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice is here!
Peter Kay is back with his first original work for British TV for four years and it looks like it’s going to be a corker.
The jewel in a Peter Kay night for Channel 4 is the first showing of the spoof talent show. Peter plays Geraldine, a northern lass who’s made it to the live final of the programme. She’s up against R Wayne and 2 Up 2 Down, a group with two wheelchair bound members, all of them hoping to impress the judges.
In a spectacular coup, Peter has assembled the judges of Pop Idol for the show: Pete Waterman, Nicki Chapman and Neil ‘Foxy’ Fox.
In a recent interview, Pete commented: “The word genius is overused – but Peter really is one. I’ve worked on these shows before and Peter’s got it spot on with this spoof. He doesn’t rip the shows apart, you can tell he’s a fan, but when I watched it I laughed so much I put my back out!”
Cat Deeley is also on board as the presenter of the show.
In a genius ‘life imitating art’ twist, Peter will be releasing the single Geraldine sings in the show, written with Take That’s Gary Barlow, and hopes it will be a Christmas number one.
While we don’t know if the song will make the tippety-top of the Christmas charts, it’s got some stiff competition from a certain other reality show after all, we do know that Peter’s definitely got the elusive comedy X Factor.
