  • A calorific road trip

When James Martin selflessly offered to seek out and taste-test the most colossal and quirky confectionary from across the Pond - all for your viewing pleasure - we had to hear all about it.

From a diet-bustin' 2900-calories-per-slice 'Pumpple Cake' to American classics as you've never seen them before, James' 2000-mile round trip of the USA is a sure-fire way to test your salivary glands are still working.

Hear all about it in our video interview on the left.

  • A slice of heaven?

Feast your eyes on this beauty.

That, friends, is a pumpple cake. It's a pumpkin pie baked in a chocolate cake and an apple pie baked in a vanilla cake, smothered in lashings and lashings of buttercream icing.

Can't your hear your arteries contracting for joy?

James encounters this monster as part of his dessert tour of the USA, in which he selflessly tests the best the country has to offer so we can recreate them in Blighty.

As for the pummple cake, we might leave that one to our American cousins. We're not sure we have a large enough fork.

  • As American as apple pie

Yee-haw! In the first instalment of James' cake-crawling road trip he's heading south to Alabama to taste some good ol' apple pie.

If you fancy recreating some of the bowl-scraping goodness at home, James will be demonstrating how to make an apple crumble cake.

We've had to loosen our belts just watching the clip. See if it hits you the same way.
