In America it is estimated that there are 3m people who could be classified as Preppers - an individual or group that prepares for any change in normal circumstances. That could be anything from flooding to all-out thermonuclear war. Of course, it's hard to pin down an exact figure on such things but there is no doubt that on the other side of the Atlantic prepping has become a billion dollar industry.
Fears over economic collapse, fuel shortages, climate change and even a nuclear threat from North Korea have all contributed to people the end of the world as we know it is just around the corner.
The movement is growing over here as well. Last year, on the back of the hit series Doomsday Preppers, Nat Geo broadcast Preppers UK and next Wednesday we will get to see Preppers UK 2. Among the Brits being featured this time around are Tom from Northern Ireland and his ‘A Team’ of preppers, fellow born-again Christians Wayne, Clinton and Craig, who are ready for mass civil unrest and possible terrorism.
